Infected

Human abominations formed under the impact of the V virus, filled with fierce hostility, able to produce billions of their kind by biting. After 2034, they became a global bio-disaster, ruining human civilization and world order in the first Species War. The spread of the infected led to the use of nuclear weapons in massive operations to cleanse infected areas, resulting in the creation of many Neon Haze zones around the world.

Frontiers

The Frontiers, formed by North American militias, suspected the government and its backers for the V virus outbreak in 2033. Used by XIX Tech to overthrow the government, these militias were betrayed when XIX Tech rose as XIX Union. Their tyranny was exposed, leading the militias, under General Joseph Raye, to the West Coast in 2044.

In 2045, they breached XIX’s blockade, reaching the West Coast. Resistance leaders signed the United Front Accord in Eugene, forming the Frontiers, an alliance valuing freedom. This marked the start of a decade-long conflict with XIX.

XIX Union

The XIX Union, a rising bioengineering empire in eastern North America, controls three Havens with Aegis Barriers. It originated from XIX Technology, a multinational pharmaceutical company backed by Tower. After spreading the V virus worldwide through Project Third Eye, XIX products caused a global virus crisis from 2034. XIX Technology, under Arthur Hughes, separated from Tower and became a super corporation. In 2044, it overthrew Tower, becoming a leading power in the post-apocalyptic world and forming the XIX Union.

Immersed in the high concentration of radiation and ionized Astropulse in the Neon Haze for a long time, many plants and fungi experienced scientifically unexplainable genetic changes, fusion, and recombination. This process broke the limits of existing species, creating completely new life forms.

In the depths of the Neon Haze, beyond the grasp of humanity, huge creatures hatch among the multiple waves of intense radiation and Astropulse microwaves. No one has seen the full shape of these massive beings; only some outcasts have barely seen their looming shadows in the enigmatic light of the Neon Haze.

Antarctica
In the wake of the Third Eye Project and the First Species War, the once-flourishing world was in shambles. After 2044, communication between North America and the rest of the world was cut off due to the Astropulse energy in Antarctica and the resulting disturbance of the magnetic fields. Represented by XIX Commonwealth and the Frontiers, humanity on this isolated continent started the difficult task of restoring civilization and order, igniting ongoing clashes.

During this time, the Neon Haze, deeply embedded in the core of the continent, stayed elusive and impenetrable, casting a lasting shadow over everything. Along with a multitude of emerging forces and organizations, the future and hope became mysterious and uncertain.
The XIX Union is a dominant corporate empire that controls most of eastern North America. It includes Aegis Dawn (First Haven), located in the former Great Lakes metropolitan area, Aegis Daybreak (Second Haven), based on cities along the northeast Atlantic coast, and Aegis Miracle (Third Haven), built during the Wasted Age with New Houston as its center. These Havens house the vast majority of the surviving people on the North American continent. The Havens are linked by railways, enabling highly centralized social management.

At the same time, outside the Havens, there is a focused effort to create industrial zones called the “Golden Belt,” aimed at restoring the industrial system that was badly damaged during the First Species War. Also, within XIX-controlled territory, there are vital military and research bases such as the Citadel, Quency Research Base, Fort Mist, and Fassbinder Laboratory.
The Frontiers control most of the huge region along North America’s western coast, extending from the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific. This includes key cities and strongholds, such as Eugene, Fort Pallas, and Zensen Stronghold.

The Frontiers use multiple self-reliant brigades to face the challenges posed by XIX Union. Within their controlled territory, the Frontiers have set up various settlements of different sizes. Although the population is not large, these settlements have developed a more basic and loosely connected social atmosphere. Even with limited survival resources, they keep showing vitality and resilience.
Central North America consists of three parts: the neutral zone called “Exiles’ End,” a thin strip filled with crime called the “Limbo Corridor,” and the human-unreachable “Neon Haze.” Major cities and strongholds include the Bankers’ Stone Shatter City and the Frontiers’ fortress, Gray Rock Station.

The whole central region is trapped in the crossfire of the conflict between XIX Union and the Frontiers, creating the large neutral zone with Stone Shatter City at its center. It serves as a central hub for the trade of resources for all factions. Meanwhile, the deadly and mysterious Neon Haze, hard for humans to access, acts as a natural barrier of separation.

Various forces and organizations are active in the dangerous thin strip called the Limbo Corridor, located to the south of the Neon Haze. Besides the Neon Haze, the central region is mainly characterized by deserts, sand dunes, city ruins, and canyons, having rich mineral resources.
The Neon Haze Zone in North America encompasses a vast region, stretching from the original state of New Mexico to Colorado, Utah, and Arizona, with its boundaries constantly changing. This radiation-intensive and inaccessible zone originated in 2038 after the nuclear explosion in Los Cavana. It spawned a persistently expanding mist with an elusive glow, leading to widespread biological depletion, resulting in significant casualties among all organisms, including humans, and giving rise to unpredictable mutations.

The North American Neon Haze is the second large-scale Neon Haze Zone to emerge, following the one in Eastern Europe. It further restricts human living spaces, severely disrupts once unhindered global radio communication, and saturates the stratosphere with electromagnetic pulses, making aviation impossible within the zone.
During the First Species War, the European continent experienced a polarization. The eastern region, centered on Sosnovy Bor and St. Petersburg, suffered intense nuclear attacks, resulting in the creation of the largest and earliest Neon Haze, still existing today. This area is the most badly destroyed from the First Species War, making it hard to find signs of the civilization that once flourished among the cruel and endless ruins.

In the western part of the continent, covering cities like Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam-Rotterdam, The Hague, Cologne, Dortmund, and Frankfurt, protected by Aegis Odin that was built during the time of the New Coalition, stays intact. It is the last remaining refuge for humans on the European continent. With the spread of the eastern Neon Haze, living conditions in the Western European Haven are becoming more difficult.
250 million years ago, the eastern part of Antarctica, especially Wilkes Land, faced a violent asteroid impact that led to plate breakage and the most widespread and disastrous species extinction event in recorded history.

Two hundred and fifty million years later, an ancient egg was found and named Tiamat’s Tear. The V virus grown from it marked the start of everything. Decades later, the huge crater left by the asteroid impact had become the home of the Grim Null. In the depths of the glaciers, a civilization beyond human comprehension, called the vorphs, was emerging and rising.
